Does DirectX Affect The Registry?
Microsoft just recently released the latest DirectX version and as usual, it’s in the spotlight. DirectX is a Microsoft API, which is a set of DLL’s that contain all kinds of useful functions for multimedia programmers. Does DirectX affect the registry?
Like all other DLL’s and applications DirectX is no different, writing the necessary files to the registry. Anytime you update your DirectX you should uninstall the previous version first, and then run your registry cleaner to make sure all associations are gone.
A common mistake is to think that by using add/remove programs or an uninstall command all the associated files in the registry will be deleted. This is not necessarily true and these left over files are just enough to create problems for you. That’s why using the registry cleaning is so important. Because if you don’t get all the files out of the registry you will have problems with the install.
Programmers use DirectX to create fast graphics, sounds, and input functions. It’s easy to use and it’s powerful. Back in the day of DOS, things weren’t so easy for programmers, and hardware device support created a real nightmare for programmers.
DirectX provides a key set of commands and tools that are able to enhance multimedia applications, especially games allowing the use of advanced features such as 3D graphics acceleration chips. Always install the latest DirectX release so that you get the most out of games and programs that utilize it
Some anti virus software program may report DirectX as a virus or a registry error with a message that looks like this - The key CLSID\{92187326-72B4-11d0-A1AC-0000F8026977}\InprocHandler32 refers to a missing file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\gchand.dll
Norton commonly produces an error. You could be asked to delete the key from the registry or it could automatically fix the problem but then your DirectX will likely not work properly. Or you might get the following error message - Input:
Problems were found in the system registry, the above referred registry key (CLSID\{92187326-72B4-11d0-A1AC-0000F8026977}\InprocHandler32)is missing!
You can try uninstalling your DirectX and then reinstalling it and see if that resolves the problem. If your antivirus program continues to give, you trouble then contact the manufacturer for help. DirectX affects the registry like every other DLL, which resides there but just like other DLL’s it should live in peace without creatin
